lose weight and you will feel betterrrrr
June 15, 2011 - 8:38 pm
Thanks for sharing this, I hope your doing better now!
June 15, 2011 - 9:22 pm
Oh dear I’m so sorry for your pain.. I hope you feel better one day… All I can say is that surgery should never be done at a local/community hospital. One must hunt down a good doc at good state or university hospital within 100 miles if possible. It’s sad and not fair, but good insurance is a must also. So sorry for your pain dear.

5 different back doctors insisted I needed surgery but I was 28 and knew I was too young. I started going to the gym every day and now I have no pain and thats without the Percocet and Morphine I was on. Anyone reading this think long and hard before you let them cut. Once they cut you can NEVER go back.

I just had my back done last tues 16th march. maverick disc replacement l4/l5 and fusion l5/s1. this is after injuring discs on a flight with annular tears and leaks in both discs. Everyones reposnse is different and I guess i am not so lucky. post op pain was excruciating 10/10 taking 90 mins to ease to 6/10. I had a terrible time in hospital. but this is not always the case. i am still in pain but getting more and more mobile/manageable slowly. so too early to say at present.

if you are under 60 and depending on overall health they will go through front muscles. Easier to heal. Over 60 and your back muscles are less tight/dense and so can be done this way. also anaesthetic wise a prone approach is far riskier anestethic wise (going through back). the wound will heal through the front but you must do physio religiously.
June 15, 2011 - 11:08 pm
yeah but going threw the front of the stomach to do back surgery…won’t they permanently damage your stomach muscles by cutting them? stomach muscles don’t re-attach after being cut…do they?
please advize further. I am so confused and I go for my pre-op on the 24th of march.
I do not want my stomach muscles to be trashed after surgery….won’t that weaken my back? don’t you need strong stomach muscles to help your back stay correct?
thanks
June 15, 2011 - 11:44 pm
If you are young trust me you DO NOT want surgery through the back. The back consists of many layers of tight/dense muscle fibres. By going through this you will risk major disruption of muscle fibres, increase blood loss and longer healing.
Surgery through the abdomen is not without its risks too but blood loss, healing, and post op pain will be better. Major risks with abdominal approach include nicking the major blood vessels and retrograde ejaculation in males – ess making you infertile.

Has anyone heard of back surgery threw the front instead of the back? I would rather have it threw the back but my doc wants to cut open my stomach……
June 16, 2011 - 1:29 am
that looks like more than 15 stitchs honey….
the doctors say that they want to go threw the front of my stomach instead of my back…..I would rather have it threw the back.
did you have herniated disks? If so how many……sorry if I missed that info in your vid. I was a little tramatized by the stitchs…I hope you recover soon!
June 16, 2011 - 2:26 am
Thank you so much for posting this video…finally someone who tells what the it really is like before you get cut open….your so lucky you had that nice nurse who looked after you….
I felt so bad for you….I am glad you are o.k….
Thanks again for telling the truth…I have watched alot of videos and people seem to say that it is no big deal and things are just great before and after surgery.
your sooooo brave!

yes herniated discs are the worst. i’m 19, 6 foot and fit, and have been completely out of sport for 6 months due to one. doc tells me i’ll have probs with it forever, not becauseof the bulge, but because once the disc herniates it loses it hydration and becomes degenerative – and so can’t take impact effectively anymore.
ouch! that is a nasty scar. good luck with your recovery. i’m afraid to say you will NEED to lose weight. I know it’s hard with this horrible injury though.anyway take care.
June 16, 2011 - 3:28 am
Oh dear, I feel so awful for you, and I am scared to death now because I am facing the same surgery!! I have to ask you though–why was the anesthesiologist messing with your tonuge? I don’t understand that. If you have a moment, could you explain? Was this in your lumbar region? My S1 disc is prolapsed and leaking. I am in incredible pain. I have to have a discogram this coming Friday. I’m a little scared. Soma’s didn’t do a thing for me!! Hope you are feeling better now! ~Molly

I had alot of the same problems. FUN huh?

Dammit I wrote you another comment but it erased. Email me. If you give me your phone number I can call you and talk about this.
June 16, 2011 - 4:02 am
Dear. The first thing you need to do is lose weight. Starve youself if needed. Your weight is putting pressue on your back. Second. Unless this was caused be a sudden tramatic injury your disk is just a SIDE EFFECT of the real problem which is unknown and in the muscles and in your mind. email me and will tell you more.

I was to happy to see that everything went ok. Sorry that it didn’t go smooth that always makes the stay seem longer. You still in my prayers….Hugs, Chelly
