What is the best type of doctor to see if I know I have a herniated disc?
I lived in China where I got an MRI and found out I have a herniated disc. Does anyone know the best doctor to go see for that? I’ve heard go to a neurosurgeon and not an orthopedic surgeon. Also…anyone heard of going to a chiropractor? I have had the pain for over a year so I think I’m in the 10% that don’t get better after 6 months or less. Thanks!

See your health care provider as soon as possible (neurologist). Conservative treatment, including physical therapy and anti-inflammatory drugs, is often successful in relieving pain from a herniated, or “slipped,” disk. Unless the pain or numbness is severe or nerve function is impaired to the point of weakness of your leg muscles, you should try those alternatives for two to three months before resorting to more invasive techniques such as local cortisone injections or surgery. I hope this helps you. And good luck.
