How to tell the difference between joint pain in knees and muscle pain?
I do heavy squats about 3 days a week and sometimes I can’t tell if the joint is in pain or the muscles surrounding them are. Does anyone know anything I can do to help me figure it out?

My husband had zero cartilage on his right knee. Knee arthritis usually shows up as a small (or large) patch of ooze around your knee. It swells. Muscle aches don’t swell up.
My husband took DLPA amino acid for pain. The pain left in a day and never came back. He no longer needed it after a month as the amino acid gets the body to produce the endorphins to fight its own pain.
DLPA makes people like me anxious. It is not for people with predispositions to anxiety disorders.
At the same time we went to GNC and got him Triple Joint Flex. In about a month his cartilage was rebuilt and he was walking about. All this and no knee replacement surgery. Today, about a year later, he just takes the Joint Flex for maintenance..

I am a physical therapist. To be honest, if you were my patient I would say that it doesn’t matter if it is joint or muscle pain, at least initially. If you are feeling pain you should stop the exercise and avoid any activity that aggravates it. Apply ice to the area a few times a day if there is any swelling. And, if it continues, see a good physical therapist who can help figure it out.
