@shirleysw21 could be very tight muscles pressing on nerves…. shooting pain is very nerve like…
perhaps you have a pinched nerve somewhere?

what could be the cause of my pain and what exercises are good for me?
for over a year now, I’ve been having LOTS of achy upper back pain, the sternocleidomastoid has trigger points and the back of the neck/head is tense and feels this burning achy muscular tightness.
could it be just bad posture and tension? or is it a pinched nerve?
I dont have throbbing or shooting pain of any kind though.

Hi Shirley – it really sounds like you need to see a qualified medical doctor, Rolfer, chiropractor or physical therapist if the pain is so severe. What you’re describing sounds like a nerve impingement. Without seeing you or what’s going on with your neck specifically, I couldn’t really make any recommendations beyond the basics. If that’s not working, seek professional help!

I have a question because I’m 26 and I trying this to get some relief. If I must say when doing this the pain shoots or make itself very well known. my whole back neck is in pain and I don’t want to go to the doctor until it’s my time. I’m taking excederien 4 pills in one day for about 3 days. what are some really effective ways to relieve this and what would be a good pillow? What should I also be concern with?
