How to deal with sciatica while pregnant?
I just got off the phone with a telenurse she figures I have sciatica. She gave me some advice just wondeing if anyone else has experienced this and what they did to relieve the pain. Also if it affects labor and delivery?
All you can do is get plenty of rest. The baby is pushing on your nerve so there’s not a lot you can do. Just take it easy and try seeing a chiropractor, they can give you some good advice on pain management.
As far as labor, it could affect the position you give birth in if it’s painful but that’s about it!
DO NOT TAKE IBUPROFEN!!!!

I have had sciatica and I have gotten relief from deep tissue nerve massage. I couldn’t lift my leg the pain was so bad. I met a massage therapist and
I was shown how to massage the top of the nerve myself and had relief soon.
The nerve is located about 3-4 inches below your waist in the buttock area, 2-3 inches from your hip. You have to DIG into the muscle til you find the MOST PAINFUL SPOT, it feels like a hot poker going in! Use your thumb or knuckle to search for it. When you find the nerve, push it like you are ringing a doorbell. Do this as much as you can stand, take some deep breaths, it helps too. I have done this sometimes to the point of bruising myself but I got relief. It really does work. Hope this helps you.

sciatica is an inflammation of the sciatic nerves of the lower spine. (it’s what is known as low back pain). Stretching is good for it, lie on the floor with your arms to your sides, knees bent then with the top half of your body flat on the floor shift your legs over to one side and hold for a count of ten then the other side for a count of ten. Do this at least ten times. Alternating ice packs and heating pad also help, every 15 minutes change from ice pack to heating pad. Walk alot, try not to sit for long periods of time as that only aggravates the condition. When you go to bed place pillows under your thighs to elevate your lower spine.

i found this pretty great stability ball. it’s shaped like an egg and when you sit on it; it really helps take the pressure off of your lower back. i bought the 65 cm one but i am really short so i would recommend the 85 cm to any normal height person. they sell them on amazon.com and are really great for labor too. the whole squatting thing. good luck.

The thing that worked best was massages from my husband going from just below my waist at my back, then down the leg. It’s amazing how much better it feels. Did not affect labour.
